How much pipe is used for the world’s largest desalination plant?
The largest desalination plant in the world, Ras Al-Khair, has been completed using Flowtite biaxial pipes and Flowtite patented joint technology. ISEEC, responsible for detailed engineering, construction and installation, says that they have installed more than 20.000 joints on the plant. The plant was constructed by adopting a hybrid method that will combine MSF (Multi-Stage Flashing) (160 MIGD) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) technologies (67.5 MIGD). The plant is considered to be the largest desalination project in the world. With a capacity of 228 (MIGD), the plant’s daily potable water output will be the largest in the world, sufficient to meet the needs of 3.5 million people per day. The Ras Al-Khair seawater desalination project is located in the Ras Al-Khair region earlier known as Ras Az-Zur.
