How to make a coal fired power plant in Morocco more eco-friendly?
As part of its national energy plan, the government of Morocco is building the first eco-optimized coal-fired power plant. The plant will be located near the Moroccan city of Safi and will help the country meet its growing electricity demands. The installation of Flowtite pipes for the flue gas desulphurization system (FGD) has recently been completed. The FGD system is just one part of this large eco-optimization project. The installation of all the systems will continue until July 2017. “We are extremely proud to be able to help reducing the carbon footprint of coal-based energy,” says Meryem Hadri, technical engineer of Amitech Maroc, which are providing the Flowtite GRP pipes. While coal-fired power plants provide higher carbon footprint than most other sources of energy, the technology chosen by the Moroccan government will not only reduce the carbon footprint, but also optimize the performance output.
