Irrigation Pipeline for Hungary’s Dalmand
Dry summers have been a serious problem for the many fields in western Hungary’s Dalmand over the past years. Now, thanks to Hobas, dried up plants and poor harvests belong to the past: About 1.7 km of Hobas Irrigation Pipes now cater for approximately 560 hectars farmland.
Dalmand Co. Ltd., a member of the Bonafarm Group the largest private agro business of the country, mainly cultivates corn, sunflowers and canola. In order to counteract water shortages Dalmand installed a new computerized irrigation system in spring 2010. 35 % of the 2.2 million euro investment have been subsidized by the European Union. The system can supply more than
560 hectares of land with artificial rain as well as fertilizers. Hobas Pipes play a decisive role in the project: about 1.7 km of 500 mm in diameter, pressure class PN 10 GRP irrigation pipes have been installed. Apart from pipes, Hobas also delivered tees and a customized 71°-bend to optimally suit the restricted space.
The project is a further example for how Hobas Pipes can be flexibly combined with other materials. For smaller diameters the contractor utilized PVC pipes from a local supplier which are connected to HOBAS Tees with loose flanges. The relief valve for the irrigation system was fixed to a steel pipe which is laminated to the HOBAS Pipe. Also the static properties of Hobas Products came up trumps: Various soils from the pumping station to the widely branched piping system as well as heavy loads due to agricultural machinery posed no problem to the pipes that were produced with a stiffness of 10,000 N/m². Some parts of the irrigation system run through larger Hobas Protective Pipes.
After merely three months the installation of the 1.7 km-long Hobas Line was successfully completed and the reliable and regular water supply makes sure that cultivation yields fruit independent of the weather.
