HOBAS Pipes Warm Elephants at Zurich Zoo, CH
In the early summer of 2014, the elephants at Zurich Zoo will move to their new compound with a 5000 m² house that provides enough space for 10 animals. When outside temperatures are low, warm air is brought to the elephant house through HOBAS Pipes so as for the majestic creatures to feel just fine throughout the whole year. Four ventilation units and numerous air valves have been installed parallel to the building ensuring uninterrupted aeration. HOBAS GRP Pipes DN 450 to 800 in diameter transport the warm air to the valves. The installation in open trench was conducted by HOBAS: one part indoors and another outside of the elephant house. Bends, reductions, and other fittings complete the air conditioning system. An important issue were the technical demands on the HOBAS Products. HOBAS Application Engineers confirmed the fulfillment of all technical requirements, respectively the heat conductivity of HOBAS Pipes being 0.85 W/m*K. This is important as the heated air needs to keep a certain temperature travelling through the pipe system until it reaches its destination. The contractor was very happy with the HOBAS Products as well as their installation.
