HOBAS Pipes collect Stormwater at Airport in Romania
For many years, travelers from West Romania and Cluj County had to drive all the way to the airports Bucharest or Budapest for long distance flights – Cluj-Napoca Airport was just too small for international flights. In 2011, the Cluj County Council eventually decided to go international: The airport should be expanded and modernized and a new, longer runway should be built.
These plans made it necessary to install a new stormwater drainage system. In search of a pipe material which would meet the high requirements at the airport, the building contractor NAPOCA SA found a solution in HOBAS Pipe Systems.
The installation of the new sewage system started in 2011 with HOBAS Pipes DN 1000 and 1200, the two largest among eleven different pipe diameters. The drainage system was perfectly aligned on either side of the newly built runway and safely leads the stormwater into the nearby Somes river. By June 2012 all pipes were installed, with just some finishing work on the manholes still to be done. At the end of August 2012, the drainage system alongside the new runway will be completed. NAPOCA SA is very satisfied with the modern HOBAS Solution for the new Cluj-Napoca International Airport.
