Amiblu supplied over 1,200 m of GRP pipes and fittings for the “Pontiñas Stormwater Tank and Interceptor Sewers in Lalín (Pontevedra, Spain)”, a project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the framework of the Multiregional Operational Program of Spain 2014-2020.
The project defined and evaluated the necessary actions to reduce untreated water discharges that typically occurred during rainfall events. It included increasing the capacity of the sewers along the banks of the Pontiñas River using Amiblu GRP sewer pipes and integrating a stormwater tank into the network to retain water during rainfall episodes, minimizing untreated water discharge into the environment.
Specifically, the following works were carried out:
- Intercepting sewers: Four main GRP collectors, with diameters ranging from DN 400 to 2000 mm were built. This includes new collectors on the left and right banks of the Pontiñas River; a collector that channels wastewater from the southern area to the stormwater tank; and another that collects from the sewage network of Donramiro parish. Also included were two GRP branch collectors DN 500 and 800 mm to connect the existing network, one outlet collector from the stormwater tank connecting downstream to the existing sewer network, and one stormwater drainage collector from the tank to the Pontiñas River, 56.42 meters long, made out of GRP in diameters DN 1500 mm.
- Stormwater tank: A semi-buried tank with a storage capacity of 5,000 m³ was built. The tank will empty by gravity through a Vortex valve housed in a semi-dry chamber, limiting the maximum flow rate permitted by the future expansion of the wastewater treatment plant for the Pontiñas River basin. An auxiliary building was constructed to house the preliminary treatment, including a coarse solids pit and screening grates, receiving all incoming flow. The overflow structure includes a 6 mm solids screen so that any overflow from the tank is pretreated before discharge.
In addition to the sewer pipes, Amiblu also supplied various special GRP fittings such as tees and cover shafts for the manholes.
