“I truly enjoy my apprenticeship at Amiblu.”
Interview with Angelina Skopnik
Apprentice as a materials tester for plastics technology at Amiblu #weareamiblu
What motivated you to choose this apprenticeship at Amiblu?
I wanted to learn something diverse and exciting. Even though I wasn’t particularly passionate about technology at first, I was curious to explore it further. Friends of mine told me about Amiblu and I initially applied for an apprenticeship as a machine and plant operator.
However, during my first trial day, I realized that production wasn’t really for me. Amiblu was very flexible and helped me to find a better fit, which for me was quality management and working with tests and chemicals. And in fact, Amiblu coordinated with the Chamber of Commerce (IHK) and offered this apprenticeship for the first time. This was a great opportunity for me!
I am now in my second year of training and can confidently say that it was the right decision—both for me and for Amiblu.
What do you like most about your work at Amiblu, and what does a typical workday look like?
I particularly enjoy the work environment and the collaboration between different departments. This allows me to learn beyond my own area of responsibility, giving me a broader understanding of processes and structures.
As an apprentice, my day currently takes place mostly in vocational school, where plastic technicians are in the minority compared to system and metal technicians. Remarkable fact: Seven of the nine plastic technicians in my class are women!
At Amiblu, my work mainly involves testing chemicals and carrying out testing procedures. We analyze all incoming raw materials, such as sand, calcium carbonate, and different resins. At the end of the production chain, we perform quality control on sample products using different methods, including visual inspections and tensile tests like split-disk, longitudinal, and ring tensile testing. We have advanced equipment for all these tests, which makes the work much easier.
For these tests, I interact frequently with different departments, such as standard pipe production, jacking pipe production, and lean management. This variety keeps my job interesting and allows me to connect with different colleagues throughout the week. My workday is never boring, and most importantly, it’s fun!
What has been your best moment with your colleagues so far? What are you particularly proud of?
The team is great, and there are many joyous moments. My favorite experiences so far have been the company events, where we get to spend more time talking and socializing.
Amiblu is a company,… where I truly enjoy my apprenticeship.
How do you see your future at Amiblu?
Since I’m quite spontaneous, I don’t want to commit to anything just yet. I’d love to stay at Amiblu, but I can also see myself exploring other opportunities.
