7000 m of Amiblu Flowtite GRP pipes have been supplied for the upstream and downstream connections of the JORF modular desalination plant in Morocco.

Droughts are relatively common in Morocco and have been increasing in frequency and intensity over the past years due to climate change. In 2022, the situation was so severe that the country’s ministry of water declared a “state of water emergency”. A campaign to combat the water wastage was started, and the country set to considerably expand its desalination capacity to provide additional water resources.

One of the projects launched in this context was a modular desalination plant to provide potable water for the citizens of El Jadida and its surroundings, adding up to around 300,000 people. Additionally, one of the numerous industrial sites of the client OCP in the city of Khouribga was to be supplied with filtered desalinated water.

The desalination plant was built of ready-to-use containers with all installations included. Amitech Maroc, an affiliate of the Amiblu Group, supplied more than 7000 m of biaxial GRP pipes from DN 400 to DN 2000 for the upstream and downstream connections of the complex water system.

Construction works started in September 2022 and were successfully finished a couple of months later. The modular desalination plant has a capacity of 115,000 m³ per day and will help Morocco’s inhabitants master future water scarcities.
